I Underestimated My Abilities

Wow! Today’s workout was eye-opening! I got to see that I was definitely underestimating my abilities!

I went to the gym with Michael. He is weird and likes to do his cardio (shooting around at the gym’s basketball court) before doing a heavy leg workout. I wasn’t sure about it, but went ahead with my cardio.

Stairclimber: Warmup with level 10, then slowly climbed to level 13. It said I went 3.88 miles, but I’ll round down to 3.75 miles in 30 minutes.

Treadmill: I was pooped, so I took it easy. Alternated 0.50 miles of walking hills (4.5 mph, 5% incline) and running. Finished 3.10 miles in 32 minutes.

85#- 10 reps (to warm up)

105#- 10 reps <— first time squatting more that 100 pounds!!!

115#- 7 reps <— Guy next to us compliments me on my form

135#- 5 reps <— That’s more than my body weight (haha, but not a lot more :P)

How cool do I look with those 45-pound plates on the bar? Only a little cooler? 🙂 Yay.

135#- 5 reps <— first time doing deadlift over 100 pounds!!!

Romanian Deadlift (Michael said this one is where you don’t put the bar down after every rep. This is what I usually do):

115#- 8 reps.

Lunges w/ twist and Side Lunge:

First set was done with one 25# dumbbell, 12 reps of alternating forward lunges with a twist and then 12 reps on each side for the side-lunges.

Second set was the same, but with a 27.5# dumbbell.

A protein shake was consumed on the way back home.

I wanted to do a 10 minute “ice bath” in our super-cold swimming pool. As soon as I got in, I started hyper-ventilating. The water was only up to my hips. I stayed as long as I could, and got out. 10 seconds.

I mustered up the courage to go in and try one more time… another 10 seconds.

20- second “ice bath”: DONE. How the heck do athletes do it for 10 – 15 minutes??

After work, I went face-first into this yummy dinner (soba noodles, chicken, egg, asparagus, and a nice drizzle of poppyseed dressing):

I am now about to go face-first into my studies!

I feel so great about what I accomplished at the gym today!

Is there an activity or task where you’ve underestimated your abilities?

  1. Was this the day that Michael called to me to join the gym? Do not underestimate you, Michelle. You are the ONLY woman who can run faster than me among all my acquaintances.
