As you may or may not know, I had a BIG GOAL of doing two pull-ups by the end of the year. A couple weeks ago, I tried one… and failed. A couple days ago, I was able to do one chin-up. Not bad… but I wanted to really be able to build up to 2 real pull-ups (consecutive!).
I looked on Youtube and found this video. Sounds good, man. I think I can work up to doing it through these five phases by the end of the year.
He recommends doing it every other day in the beginning… which means I should probably get a pull-up bar to use at home (Lord knows I won’t go to the gym JUST to work on my pull-ups).
Tonight’s workout will look something like this:
“Walk-the-plank” chin-up (using a step/chair, start in chin up position and lower down as slowly as possible. Repeat for 8 reps. Then repeat 4 more times for a total of 5 sets).
That’s right… it’s going to be forty walk-the-plank chin-ups (or chin-downs?) total.
Then I’ll do some ab work on the TRX suspension cables and hit the treadmill for two or three miles if I have time (roommate wants to make today’s gym session a short one, which means I just have to work harder and run faster!).
Hey! Do you think doing this upper body stuff can help me scale a wall?
Or at least a BUS?
Let’s hope so. As you know, I am participating in the Men’s Health Urbanathlon. It’s taking place right here in San Francisco on November 18th! Check out their site—> Men’s Health Urbanathlon.
It’s more than 10 miles with obstacles, but you can form a team and cover one third of the course each. Or if you’re a rockstar like me (HAHA), then you can do all 10 by yourself!
You get to take a tour of the city while also doing things like THIS:
… and this:
I’m really excited about this event! It has running, obstacles, and NO MUD (as far as I can see from these little pictures). When I did a different event with lots of mud, I was taking out stuff out of my hair and ears for a couple of days.
I hope to see you there 😀
Hope you enjoyed your Tuesday, everyone!
And feel free to challenge yourself with doing some pull-ups or chin-ups if you can’t do them yet!
