Something beautiful and amazing happened yesterday. I don’t know if has to do with the “running fairies” that this super fast runner talks about, but I actually enjoyed my speedwork yesterday.
When I saw on my schedule that I had a “4 x 1000” that was supposed to be done earlier in the week, I cringed. I put it off for a few days, but I finally mustered up the courage to go to the gym and just do it.
I know a lot of people only swear by going to the track or running outside, but I’m finding that it’s easier for me to get my butt inside a gym than to get my butt to the track. Whatever works, I guess.
Here’s how the workout went (all this done at 0.5% incline):
2.1 miles warm-up at a super slowskies (for me) speed… which happened to be 8:57. Uncomfortably slow, but it got my body warmed up.
Then I did my first 1000m run, which according to Mcmillan running, is supposed to take around 4:10-4:24, which comes to around 8.5 mph to 8.7 mph. I think.
Anyways, I ran the first 1000m (2.5 laps) at 8.5 mph to 8.6 mph (I bumped it up a little bit). 600m recovery (1.5 laps).
Second 1000m at 8.6 mph to 8.7 mph. 600m recovery.
Third 1000m at 8.7 mph to 8.8 mph. 600m recovery.
Fourth 1000m at 8.8mph to 8.9 mph. 600m recovery.
Then one mile cool down.
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I did each 1000m interval slightly faster than the previous one. I did read a magazine during the times between the w/u and c/d. I just focused on my form and kept my upper body more relaxed (don’t have shoulders by your ears or your jaw clenched).
I also sweat more than ever before. Holy moly.
So that’s 7 miles total, with a total of 2.5 miles around 7:03 to 6:40 pace (but not straight, obviously).
This morning, I woke up at 5:00 a.m. to get ready for another volunteering day at the Hellyer Half/10K/5K (Brazen racing).
That was my view from the bib tents. I was handing out the 10K bibs for about an hour and a half, then I went to direct some parking for an hour, and then I went to work in the food area (which would have been way more fun if I could have eaten desserts):
Cutting up fruit, a butt-load of bagels, cutting up the cheesecake and red velvet cake… yums.

It’s pretty awesome to have seen so many RA’s who volunteered and ran in the race. Awesome job to everyone 😀
I have the rest of the day to rest and nap. I might possibly do a short, easy run at the end of the day if I feel like it. Otherwise, I’ll just do my long run tomorrow morning on well-rested legs.
