Haven’t Done That In a While


Tuesday evening, I went to the gym and got in some cardio before a Body Pump class.

I hadn’t taken it in a while, and I know they used to require signing in, as well as getting a number… but they did not have a sign-up anymore. So with about 1.5 hours, I knew I’d be very sweaty before the class started.

40 minutes of stair-climbing (holy moly, I haven’t done that in a while. My hamstrings and butt were on fire… because I squeezed my buttcheeks as if I was holding a quarter there… or holding in a fart… the whole time).

Then 40 minutes slowly on a treadmill while watching the first quarter of the Spurs v. Heat game.

Then 7 minutes on the bike and it was time to start the class. Chimi did a warm-up on the treadmill and when she saw me, she said, “Whoa, you’re so sweaty”.

Yes. I sweat like crazy, hehe. Pretty much as soon as I start a workout.


This was Chimi’s very first Body Pump class! Luckily, she enjoyed it more than the PiYo class we took the other day. I just wish the instructor didn’t rush from one track to the next and explained the posture and movements really well… but she went so quickly that we were done with the whole workout in 45 minutes. DAAAAYUUUMN.

Anywho… Body Pump. I haven’t done that in a while. The squat and lunge tracks were SO tough and my fingers were all shaky when the workout was done. I went kind of light on the chest (15#), triceps (10#), and biceps tracks (10#)… so my arms were not crazy sore.


Yesterday, I also did something I haven’t done in a while. More like… I went somewhere I haven’t been to in a while.

The Los Gatos Creek Trail is where I used to do all of my running. It is about 10 minutes from my home, and super close to church. While Joe and the guys were basketballing, I was starting on a run.

I was thinking of maintaining a 8:30 pace. In the middle, I was praying and meditating and praying some more. I didn’t get to check my pace for several miles in the middle, but I slowly felt more and more wonderful as God lifted some worries and burdens off my shoulders. Not that I actually have a lot of burdens right now… but He lifted up a few that I had… anywho…

My pace was 8:31. Not bad, considering how I wasn’t really paying attention to it until the end, haha. 8 miles in 1:08:11. I guess 8:30 to 8:40 is my new zone-out-comfortable pace (on flat trail).

Then I did a 1 mile walk/jog to cool down. Then I went to church to watch the guys play basketball.

I don’t think I’ll be going to LGCT that often, but it is still nice to go back once in a while because it reminds me of my humble beginnings as a noob runner when I did everything wrong, haha.


Plans for the next couple of days:

Friday: Trail run with Erika at Rancho San Antonio. Then off to SF to volunteer at the pacer table, as well as pick up my pacing stuff. Then a stop at Lululemon for some kind of free fitting (WOO HOO)

Saturday: Volunteer at Trail Quake (Brazen Racing). I will be a course monitor and photographer. If you’re running it and you see me, be sure to act like you’re having a wonderful time (instead of dying on the uphill climb, hehe).

Sunday: Head out early with the Running Addicts to SF and pace the first half marathon of the San Francisco Marathon 😀

It is going to be an eventful weekend!

  1. that’s a lot of fitness!! i hear so much about body pump that i finally youtube’d what it is… i think i need to work on the weight machines first 😉 those are some crazy muscles!

    • It’s definitely a lot of fun, but it can appear intimidating in the beginning. The second session becomes WAY easier once you get the hang of how the class goes. Hope you can try it some time with a friend 🙂

  2. I am in LOVE with bodypump- if that wasn’t obvious. Your upcoming plans look and sound fantastic! I miss trail running like whoa! I did it all the time in WI but much less now that I’m in NC! I need to remedy that!

  3. As an instructor, I always like to hear feedback from participants, Just curious which squat and lunge tracks you did? Do you like that they are doing plyo moves in the lunge track in the releases the past 1+ years?

    Don’t know your instructor, but sometimes it’s hard to fit the info in between the tracks and get everything wrapped up in time. My class is normally 55 minutes, 48 of which music is playing. I feel like I talk sooo much when I teach Pump and I usually tangle my tongue at least one during class. “Put your hips under your heels” or some such nonsense 🙂

    • I think she is also allotted 55 minutes (to give time for the next class coming in). She chose a different track for the lunges and we did not do plyo. I have tried the track in the past with plyo and loved it!
