Antsy on Rest Day

Happy Tuesday! And a quick post for ya 😀

I must say… I freaking love my major. The things I learn from my kinesiology courses are so fascinating! I’ll have to share some interesting information with you in the coming weeks 🙂

Anywho, Tuesdays are my “off” days from my Hansons Marathon Method training plan. I had my speedwork yesterday: 8 x 600m w/400m recovery. 

I kind of wimped out of doing this workout at the track because it was windy here in SF. Took the workout to the treadmill and faced some annoying things: Circuit blew out or something, and the treadmills around me all completely stopped and we all had to switch to other treadmills. The second one was super loud and a little crooked. The third one was good, but all the switching around made my 2 mile warm up get cut into three parts. Boo~

Anyways, after a nice and slow 2 mile warm up (20 minutes), I started on the 600 meters (0.37 mile) at 8.4 mph (which is the prescribed pace for the speedwork according to my goal marathon time) followed by 0.25 mile at around 5.8 to 6.0 mph.  Repeat 7 more times. The whole speedwork part (without w/u) came out to 5 miles:

5 miles, 41:21, done at 1% incline. 7 miles total for the day.

I followed this up with 20 minutes on the elliptical as a cooldown.

It was an excellent workout yesterday, and I should be happy about having today off… but I’m so antsy! I did get to do a lot of walking (to school, to the bank, etc.)… 2.3 miles. I think even when it’s an off day, it doesn’t mean I should be laying in bed like a blob all day. It’s still nice to be moving around, yeah?

I think I’ll do some easy yoga after I do something reading, mostly because it feels weird not to break a sweat for the whole day.

I’ll probably be glad I took it easy today since I can lay out an awesome 6-mile tempo run tomorrow. [Note: the HMM tempo is: warm up miles, tempo miles run at race pace, and then cooldown miles. It’ll be around 10 miles for tomorrow’s workout].

How many rest days do you take per week? Do you find it hard to have a complete rest/recovery day?

How much walking do you get in per day? (I regularly get about 2 miles in when I have class)

  1. When I’m really disciplined I only take 1-2 rest days per week (1 of them probably being yoga day or something like that). When I take more than that I just get annoyed and mad towards everyone haha. Your major sounds awesome! Sometimes I wish I had studied that!

    • OMG! I know what you mean about getting annoyed at everyone… when I start to get short-tempered, my boyfriend will be like, “… Hey, you know… why don’t we go to the gym?” Hehe. It always puts me in a better mood afterwards 😉
